On Monday we had a chat with Mark Grindle again, having met him first in October. We all went through out projects and he helped focus our ideas before we begin final production. Cure has been a little stagnant since we started the Going Live projects but it has always been in the back of my mind. I've looked into scene set up and even mocked up a rough poster.
However, after running through the idea with Mark I think it's clear that I need to strip it back even further. I want to keep the core of the story and the themes of mental health and depression. Mark seemed to really like the idea of a fragmented world and the idea of shifting from chaos through to order so I want to take that idea further.
Our character should begin in a fragmented world, chaotic and in constant motion but when she finds her 'cure' the world stops and settles but nothing changes: She has still lost parts of herself (I might remove the piles of dead polygons) and the world is still fragmented. She has to force herself to see the world as it is and accept it - this should be a story of acceptance - and as she pushed a still polygon it slips back into its moving state, as does the rest of the world but she can now she a path in the chaos.
Originally I wanted to have a stronger focus on lighting but I think I might keep the lighting more consistent and keep focus on the character and the changing - or in reality - unchanging world. I also want to look into changing the character model a little to make her more streamlined and more abstract. I might simplify her enough to just be a humanoid shape and shift her wireframe around to make it more dynamic. I also found an image online I liked where she had floating polygons around her and I might incorporate that.
On another note, the more I consider where I want to go after this course, the more I think I would like to get involved in games development so it was recommended to me to render my film using a game engine and since I have a little experience in Unity, I would like to try and use it to render my film, and possibly help Diebrig to render hers too.
I did a quick test with my character model and a Mixamo animation to see how easy it would be to set things up in Unity and I think I have a lot of flexibility in how the film could be rendered so I want to keep experimenting.
